New Year, New Site, Same Me

Hi there, happy new year! It’s been a while since I last had a site and store, let me bring you up to speed. Since caveofpixels.com disappeared (R.I.P.), I packed up my beads and moved to Vienna, and have been busy settling into my new life. While I’ve still been making bead art every now and then, until now I’ve not had the time or energy to devote to creating another online presence outside of social media. So here it is, my crispy new store, with a ton of new, original artwork (and plenty more to come).

I’ve been a bit obsessed with an alternate Gameboy colour palette, recently, as you might see from the bead art collection I have available here. I love the way the colours pop, breathing new life into the regular green- and greyscale Gameboy pixel art you see around the web. I can’t wait to pay tribute to more of my favourite Gameboy games with this style.

My site went live a few weeks ago, and I actually made a sale on day 1! I was pretty surprised at this, but it goes to show the power of social media. Despite being stuck on the same number of Instagram followers for around a year, and my stats in general stagnating, I do try to build connections with people online, and if that results in a sale every now and then, that’s a nice bonus!

Since moving to Vienna I have been looking for opportunities to showcase my art at local events and venues. One place that I couldn’t resist approaching is the Retro Gaming Museum in a former WWII underground shelter in the 6th district. They have an awesome amount of vintage consoles and accessories you can play, and when myself and @mrs.guinevere (my partner in life and bead art) approached them to ask about displaying some of our pixel art, they were happy to work with us!

The showstopper piece we recently delivered to the museum is a huge 3D Gameboy we designed and constructed ourselves out of beads. This involved countless hours of work, and resulted in a larger than life model, with a great level of accuracy to the original console. If you’re in town, you can see it at the front desk of the museum!

I haven’t even gotten to the other designs I’ve started making for my store yet! I’ve started branching out to T-shirts, bags, posters, stickers… and I plan to offer much more in the future. But this post has already turned out a lot longer than planned, so I’ll save that for another time! Until then, take it easy!
